I'm having a bad day with various things going wrong and not feeling too well.
Decided I really need to cheer myself up and if anyone wants to join in that would be nice. Add five things that cheer you up.
Things that Cheer Me Up
1. Dogs racing for balls. Everything about them look so happy, I can't help but be cheered.
2. Laughing like a drain with various (very funny) friends. Although last time my friend from Galway came to visit she made me laugh so much we both lost our voices and had to take some deliberate time-out to recover.
3. The Blues Brothers. (In fact, I shall listen to it now.)
4. Sunshine. I think this is a common one for everyone in Edinburgh. I get the winter blues quite badly.
5. The Strike - brilliant comic strip film I watched the other night. A cautionary tale for all budding film-writers everywhere.
Is it working? (Takes pulse). A bit. I might try it again in a minute...

My comic novel
You've Been Framed usually cheers me up. And wildlife.
This made me chuckle too (beware, it does contain strong language, and does make one wince):

Lemme see ...
(1) My mother's roast chicken dinners on a Sunday.
(2) P G Wodehouse - never fails. Anyone who can read "The Great Sermon Handicap" without cracking up is beyond hope.
(3) A long walk in the country, preferably alone.
(4) Almost anything by Bill Bryson.
(5) Happiness is a warm puppy - only I don't have one at the moment, so I had to borrow a complete stranger's in the Co-op car park this morning. I kid you not. I scooped up a miniature Yorkshire Terrier and loved it to bits. It reciprocated.

Star Trek.
Afternoon tea.
Dogs and Frisbees.
Paddling in the sea.
Hanky panky. (Come on, someone had to say it ;-))

Thanks Mock Duck,
This blog gave me a boost. I live in Las Vegas and find myself depressed so much these days. An article called "Not a real city" did me in. Pushed me over the depressed edge. I have two beautiful dogs, Tawnie a golden retriever, and Maggie,a canaan dog, and they are the loves of my life! I'm going home early to play fetch and go for a walk! I know you are all the way in Scotland (hey I'm Scottish in my blood too!), but I just had to say thanks!

Hi Shauna. Thanks so much for that. Really lovely to hear from new people all the way across the planet and think that a humble post about throwing balls for dogs can cheer someone up. (Mind you, what is more cheering than the thought of dogs running and catching balls in the park.)
What was "not a real city" about? Your dogs sound lovely. What's a canaan dog - I may have to look that one up.
Great thing about dogs is they don't stress about all the nonsense we stress about. Food, mud and smells. And running around. We could learn a lot from dogs...:)

Hello RosyB,
It's been a while since I looked at your blog, but lucky for me I saved it as a favorite! Then I saw your post and thought, WOW! She answered me back all the way from Scotland. You are very kind. I have to say that I was having another down Friday, but your post cheered me up again. I had to go spoil the dogs a bit and that helps too.
Answer about "not being a real city" is that Las Vegas gets a bad rap when it comes to being anything other than a tourist destination. Although I don't fully buy into it because there is a whole different life here behind the scenes with real families and all, I do think that moving somewhere else in the country might be good.
I often day dream of living someplace with snow because Tawnie the Golden has Scottish blood too and she hates the heat! When we do get snow here, she loves loves loves it! Maggie on the other hand, as a Canaan Dog, doesn't mind the desert. Their breed is from the Israeli desert so she handles it just fine. She even comes in the house when the heat goes over 108F or so. She does like the snow too.
Well, not to write a book, but just to "blog" for a moment.
Thanks again for a great blog! - Shauna in Vegas
